XL Shared Dwelling
The XL Sharing Community is an infill site project to create a building design that takes place in a site located in the Hyde Park neighborhood. The main concept for the developing of the building was to merge communal spaces and residence spaces together so that the neighborhood and the residents of the communal building can enjoy the activities present inside the project. The building’s public are University of Chicago Students once they are a very strong presence in the area and low income families, that count with spaces directed for the body and mind such as Urban Farms, Library, Gallery, Meeting and Classroom spaces. The form of the building is also given by a strong efficiency concept that turns to the use of sunlight and its angles throughout the seasons of the year to shape its façade. It is also important to mention the pathway on the ground level of the building that leads to a straight connection from the main avenue to the park located behind the site, so the community could have access to a such important area of the neighborhood.
